A Selenophile forever

Selenophile means a person who adores moon; moon lover. I have been asked numerous times what does a Selenophile mean? Why do I call myself that? And why do I love moon so much? Well the toughest part about loving anything is to explain why you love it.

When I look up to moon I see futility of our existence yet somehow it is peaceful. It puts my mind at ease. It lets me reach my subconscious which is getting harder day by day. I think it as a disadvantage of growing older. May be I am wrong but as a kid it was never hard for me to tap and reach my subconscious - the real me. Even a good book or movie, or a song or deep conversations with people I Love used to that but nowadays I find it increasingly difficult... but lazily walking in the balcony and watching moon does it. Reminding me of the real me and a weird and rare confidence that things are going as per the master plan and will turn alright.

Another reason is it makes you believe is something bigger than you or anyone out there. Generally nature can make you feel such way but I believe it more by looking at cosmic elements.

I remember as a kid (at a very young age) when I was with my nani once alone without my mother. Somehow we couldn’t contact her and she didn’t had a mobile at that point of time. My nani said ‘Look at the moon and visualize your mother & talk to her, she’ll get your message.’ I don’t know whether that’s true or not but that was the first time moon gave me solace. And ever since I have never stopped talking to moon. It knows all my cries, secrets and happy moments.

“We are both looking at the same moon, in the same world.  We’re connected to reality by the same line. All I have to do is quietly draw it towards me.
- Sputnik Sweetheart, Haruki Murakami

Somewhere in a podcast I recently heard the narrator said that  ‘watching a movie or going somewhere fancy or in a concert for a date is still a little ‘earthly’ but imagine yourself and your loved one sitting on a rooftop seeing the cosmic elements change over which neither you or them or any other human have any control! Which in some ways whether you believe it or not decide your fate. That is fantasy

Me and my best friend used to do a thing where when we were talking in evening over a phone call we used to say each other ‘Can you see the moon?’ and we both would describe it’s beauty... Now that she is continents away we don’t see the moon at the same time... of all the things I miss about her, gazing moon together (though just over a call mostly) is what I miss the most!!
