FAILING WELL
Today I saw two small girls playing badminton; a very common game.
The two girls were playing with a lot of effort. Hitting hard with the racket, running for the cork, teaching each other and scolding each other. But they didn’t know how to play they were making small baby steps in learning it.. This continued for days, 2-3 hours each day. Their temperament was motivating..
Even when their cork didn’t hit the racket for this long they keep on playing and telling each other techniques that even the other barely knew (Literal trial and error). And even when they hit the cork, it flew in some other direction rather than where they were targeting.. In spite of this they motivated each other picking up the cork and giving it another try hoping this time somehow it would work and they would learn it.. But even though they didn’t learnt it they went home happily and satisfied. Smiling cause they played and hoping that they will try again tomorrow and knowing that they will know how to play just like a pro..
As a kid I guess we all learn things this way only. Be it anything from walking to playing video games. What changed? Does this not apply to life right now just as much it did then? And I guess learning process includes: trial – error, failing and trying again in between getting motivation, sometimes being the motivation and at last succeeding..
They failed but the enjoyment of trying and being in the process outweighted failing.. failing is inevitable but so is trying again! The journey, we and the people who are with us are much more important then failing or succeeding altogether.. so even if we fail we better fail it correctly and well.. And also learning to help each other when the cork falls or goes in other direction, scolding and motivating each other cause you have faith that one day we will learn it and be a pro… Above all being happy and enjoying the journey. Smiling cause you survived, hoping that tomorrow is always gonna be better than today (in means of struggle), being happy and satisfied just because there is a journey and you are very much a part of it..
Ohh! And guess what? Of course, they learnt it how to play but yes not like a pro! As the saying goes
“FAIL, FAIL, FAIL AND RAISE LIKE A PHOENIX”
